Electric Cooling Fans

Swapping an engine-driven or viscous fan for an electric thermo fan is one of the most effective cooling upgrades you can make. An electric fan only runs when the engine needs it, so you free up power and fuel otherwise spent spinning a fan at speed, cut down on noise, and get strong airflow at idle and in slow traffic – exactly where a mechanical fan struggles. They're just as useful on project builds, engine swaps, and for adding cooling to intercoolers, oil coolers and transmission coolers.

Size it to the core

Measure the radiator core – the finned area, not the tanks – and pick a fan, or a pair, that covers as much of it as possible. A fan that only cools a small patch of the core leaves the rest doing nothing.

Puller or pusher?

A puller mounts on the engine side and draws air through the radiator – the most efficient setup. A pusher mounts in front when there's no room behind. Straight blades run quieter; skew (curved) blades move more air for their size.

Airflow, power & control

Match airflow to the engine – a stock motor doesn't need the biggest fan, a modified or towing rig does. Bigger fans draw more current, so wire them through a relay with the right fuse, and use a thermo switch or controller to run the fan only when needed.

SPAL Fans

SPAL has been making fans in Italy since the 1960s – Ferrari was its first fan customer – and now supplies cooling fans to manufacturers including Audi and BMW. Choose from Slim, High Performance and Long Life ranges.

Maradyne Fans

Maradyne's reversible skew-blade fans run as a puller or pusher, so one fan suits almost any install. Sealed motors and impact-resistant glass-filled nylon stand up to road grime and debris.

Mounting & Controls

Mounting feet, tie kits, thermo switches and controllers to finish the install.

Not sure which fan suits your radiator? Talk to us – we supply and fit electric fan conversions in our Silverdale workshop.
